Zhou: In the morning I realized that anything is possible under such circumstances.

In Canada, Guanyu Zhou passed Valtteri Bottas for the second consecutive Grand Prix in qualifying and reached the final session for the first time in his career…

Guanyu Zhou (10th): “I am very happy to qualify for the final session, especially after my first full wet qualifying in Formula 1. When I woke up in the morning and looked out the window, I realized that anything is possible today is. This year we were close to the final of qualifying, but I didn’t expect this to happen in Montreal – on a track completely new to me. However, during the season I have made steady progress – and here is the result!

I liked driving the car in such conditions, where the smallest mistake can ruin everything. The track was slippery, I could barely see the cars in front of me, but I tried my best.

In terms of speed in the race, we have always been strong in dry conditions, so tomorrow I will fight and try to score points.”

Valtteri Bottas (11th): “I felt I could do better than 11th, but I was unlucky with the timing of the fast lap. I was one of the first to cross the finish line at a time when the track was accelerating almost a second per lap.

Everyone behind me had a big advantage, but I was unlucky – I made a small block in the first corner and lost time. It is a pity that it was not possible to achieve more – in varying conditions the car worked perfectly.

The track conditions were difficult, especially in the first corner where there was almost nothing to see, but on Sunday the weather will be completely different – and we took that into account when setting up the car. Hopefully we will be competitive in the race and score points with two cars.”
