Formula 1 will test new energy system in Austria

At the Austrian Grand Prix, Formula 1 is testing a new, more efficient power generation system that is estimated to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 90% compared to last year’s Austrian season round.

The new generation of generators will power the paddock, the teams and FIA motorhomes, the pit lane and the race technical centre, which houses representatives of all television companies accredited for the Grand Prix. This decision is part of Formula 1’s environmental strategy to be carbon neutral by 2030.

In particular, the generators will run on biofuel and solar panels with a total area of 600 square meters will be installed at the Red Bull Ring. meters. The new system will generate about 2.5 megawatt hours of energy on weekend days.

This system will not only be more efficient and environmentally friendly, but also more reliable, and teams will not have to run their own generators.

During the weekend, Formula 1 specialists will collect and analyze information about his work to make the energy system even more perfect in the future.

Ellen Jones, Formula 1 Environmental Leader: “With the implementation of the renewable fuels program, Formula 1 faces major challenges in terms of innovative solutions that make our sport more sustainable, which could have an impact on other industries.

Although the new power system in Austria will only work in test mode, it shows our intention to keep looking for new ways to make our logistics and all production processes more efficient.”
