Before the start of the weekend in Spielberg, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff summarized the Canadian round and talked about the race ahead…
Toto Wolff: “There were many positive moments in Canada. And although we did not manage to finish with two cars, the podium is a good result, the novelties prepared by us give cause for optimism.
A weekend in Austria is always special. This is my home race and I have fond memories of this track, both with the team’s success and with the previous period of racing and teaching as an instructor. In addition, we are waiting for the second weekend this season with a sprint on Saturday – I wonder how this will affect the joining of forces on a more traditional track.
On the diagram, the short circuit at Spielberg may look simple – several long straights separated by slow, medium and fast corners, but it is extremely difficult to drive cleanly.
We will try to build on the success of the last two Grands Prix and continue the positive trend. In Austria, the W14 should be more competitive than in Canada, but success has yet to be achieved. As always, we will do our best to achieve this.”
