Red Bull Motorsport Consultant Helmut Marko said Red Bull Racing CEO Christian Horner opposed Nick de Vries’ invitation to AlphaTauri. After eight races of the season, the driver from the Netherlands has not yet earned any points and now Marco is inclined to agree with Horner.
“Christian and I rarely have different opinions, but sometimes we disagree,” Marco told The Inside Line podcast. “I think the last time he and I had a disagreement was about Nick de Vries.
Judging by what is happening right now, Horner was right. Of course AlphaTauri is not Red Bull Racing, but since we are all one family I am interested in his opinion. And Christian was originally not the biggest fan of De Vries.”
When asked why the contract was offered to Nick de Vries and not Mick Schumacher, as suggested by AlphaTauri boss Franz Tost, Marco replied: “Mick has been associated with Ferrari throughout his career. Nick had a very successful race at Monza last year as a substitute and he fit our philosophy better.”
