In the last stage in Canada, the Williams team brought technical innovations, but they were in one copy and only Alex Albon received them. The Thai rider showed his potential and earned points for seventh place, the team’s best result of the season.
This coming weekend Albon’s teammate Logan Sargent in Spielberg, Austria, will also get an updated car.
Dave Robsonchief engineer: “We achieved a good result in the last stage in Montreal and this weekend we expect to consolidate our success with another strong performance.
In Austria, both drivers will receive updates, while in Canada, the new items were only on Alex’s car. In addition, we have slightly modified the design of the underbody and front brake ducts to get a little more efficiency out of the new products. Both cars will undergo these changes, but as we have a sprint phase ahead of us, there will be little time to evaluate the changes made.
Ahead of the second stage of the season, held in the format of a race weekend with a sprint. We expect more difficulties than in Baku: the restrictions on the number of sets of tires and the mandatory use of certain compounds at a given time are likely to limit the possibilities on the short and fast Austrian circuit.
Possible rain on Saturday will add to the challenge, but could also provide additional opportunities to unleash the pace of the FW45.
Both riders know the Austrian circuit and Logan has had good results on it in recent years. This should help them get straight into first practice and find the right setup for Friday’s qualifying.”
Alex Albon: “I’m looking forward to the Austrian Grand Prix after a great weekend in Canada. The Austrian circuit should suit our car better than others. Given that we have a sprint weekend and possible rain, we will have opportunities. The team will do everything to score points.”
Logan Sargent: “I have a lot of good memories of Austria, so I am looking forward to getting back on track.
We are waiting for another stage with a sprint, which means more opportunities. I think it will be an interesting and exciting weekend.”
