We wrote that Sebastian Vettel spoke out this weekend against oil sands development and accused Canadian authorities of an environmental crime. In response, Alberta’s energy secretary Sonia Savage accused the racer of hypocrisy because he plays for a team sponsored by Saudi oil company Aramco.
Vettel agreed with the accusation of hypocrisy but urged to look at the matter more broadly…
Sebastian Vettel: “I’m a little disappointed that politicians are getting personal because it’s not about me, it’s about the whole picture.
Yes, I’m a hypocrite, I do what I like and I earn my living from it. But I have my own interests and goals. It’s a shame that when we ask questions about our common future, we go to a personal level and lose sight of the situation as a whole.
I was talking about moving away from fossil fuels and starting with renewable energy sources. That’s the question I’m trying to solve.”
