Sainz: We worked hard to make novelties for Austria

This week the Ferrari team held a regulated filming day at the Fiorano circuit, testing the front wing and underbody. The prepared novelties will appear on the machines of the Scuderia in Spielberg, and before the start of the race weekend, team driver Carlos Sainz spoke about what he expects from these updates.

Carlos Sainz: “We expect the new items to take another step in the right direction. That is our goal and the entire Maranello team has put a lot of effort into preparing new items for this race. I do not have enough words to thank everyone for the efforts made to rectify the situation we find ourselves in.

The team worked extra hours to make these updates. We, for our part, will do everything we can to get the most out of the new products. Hopefully we will be competitive this weekend.

What increase in speed produces new items? I can only answer that question after I have tested them.”

Speaking about the Canadian Grand Prix result, Carlos said: “That race was a good boost for the whole team. After some difficult stages we showed good race pace.

In addition, it is great that in Canada we have regained positions in the race and not backtracked, as has happened more than once in the past. Fourth and fifth place is a solid result after all the difficult races the team has had.

In Canada, the approach to work and speed was different from the previous phases, which can be considered good news. Last weekend was a serious motivation for the whole team.

Tire wear wasn’t an issue either, as the tire load in Montreal isn’t as high as other tracks, which also helped us. Last weekend showed that when there are no problems with speed and tyres, it is much easier to implement a strategy. We were able to act more flexibly, which made the race more interesting.”

Asked if the testing in Barcelona prior to the Canadian round helped with tire wear, Carlos replied: “Unfortunately not, because we tested tires that do not require pre-heating. As you understand, it is impossible to obtain information about the performance of the actual rubber from such tests.

Still, I was happy to be able to work on the keys. But, as I said, we have not had the opportunity to get any information that will be useful in the work of the upcoming race weekends.
