Both AlphaTauri riders stopped fighting in the first part of the Austrian Grand Prix qualifying – Yuki Tsunoda showed the 16th fastest time, Nick de Vries – the 20th. For the Dutchman, this result was the worst of the season.
Yuki Tsunoda (16th): “I’m very disappointed because I couldn’t get the most out of the car because of the traffic. The second attempt worked out well, it was possible to get the second piece, but unfortunately the gaps in the peloton were minimal.
Apparently we are waiting for different weather on Saturday – the forecast promises rain. We have to be ready for this and I will do my best to qualify for the sprint.”
Nick deVries (20th): “I think we weren’t fast enough today – in qualifying I just lost pace. On the last attempt I made a mistake in the first corner and lost two tenths. If not, there would be a small chance of performing slightly better. In any case, I don’t think we were fast enough today to get into the second part.
Tomorrow we will have new opportunities in different weather conditions. We will make one more attempt to squeeze the maximum out of the car.
