Athletistic/Formula-1. Max Verstappen’s 2023 F1 season is approaching one of the most impressive we’ve seen in a while. The runner’s worst result this season was third place in the sprint in Baku. Of the eight races this season, Verstappen has won six and finished second twice.

Given the Red Bull RB19’s advantage over the rest of the grid, the Dutch driver is on course to break quite a few records this season.

Record for most wins in a season (15: Max Verstappen)

Verstappen holds the record for most wins in a season, which he achieved last year with Red Bull in a much more competitive season. In 2023, he has already won six of the first eight races of the season. There are 14 races left this season, of which he must win 10 to break his own record.

Despite the fact that it’s a long season and there’s always a threat of rivals catching up, Red Bull’s lead over the rest looks big enough to sustain it all year.

Most points in a season (454: Max Verstappen)

Verstappen also set the record for most points scored in a season last year (454), under very different circumstances. There will be six sprint races this year compared to three last year, which means more points can be scored. Red Bull also have a clearer advantage over the rest of the teams this season.

The Dutch driver retired twice in the first three races of the season last year and still scored 454 points. This season, he averaged 24.3 points (excluding sprint results) per race.

If we extrapolate the data, we can see that Max Verstappen has the potential to score around 500 points, even if we exclude points scored in six sprints. Barring anything drastic, Verstappen is set to break his record in 2023.

Biggest league lead (155: Sebastian Vettel)

Sebastian Vettel won the Drivers’ Championship by the widest margin (155 points) in 2013. Verstappen fell just short of last season’s record 146 points ahead of second-placed Charles Leclerc. Verstappen is already 69 points ahead of teammate Sergio Pérez this year after just eight races. The file is real.

Record for most consecutive races with a championship lead (37: Michael Schumacher)

Michael Schumacher led the Drivers’ Championship in 37 consecutive races between the 2000 United States Grand Prix and the 2002 Japanese Grand Prix with Ferrari. Max Verstappen also led the championship last season with the Spanish Grand Prix.

Verstappen has been in the lead for 23 races and if he continues to lead the championship after the 2023 Brazilian F1 Grand Prix, he will break Michael Schumacher’s 20-year record.

Record for most pole positions in a season (15: Sebastian Vettel)

This will probably be the toughest record for Max Verstappen as he didn’t have the most perfect qualifying result this season. The driver has six pole positions in nine races, including today in Austria.

However, Verstappen is still very strong in qualifying. With 13 qualifying remaining, he needs to be on pole 10 times to break Vettel’s record.
