Christian Horner, like everyone else in the Red Bull Racing team, is upset that Sergio Perez failed to qualify for the qualifying final as he regularly went over track limits.
Christian Horner “We haven’t had time to talk to Sergio yet, but this is yet to come. You see, today he had a normal pace, the car made it easy to get on the first or second row, he was almost the same time as Max. And one thing was required of him: to observe the limits of the route.
He violated them once, then the second… He was reminded again, “Just don’t cross the white line!” But he did it a third time, and that was it. This is very, very frustrating, because Sergio could have shown a good result. It’s great that we took pole, but the feeling is that we can’t quite handle it.
Max also overstepped the track boundaries, but when we warned him he at least reacted and was able to stay within the white lines, riding conservatively enough for a lap to be guaranteed to stay on track. In general, he had to slow down in the last sector of the circle.
Sergio was able to drive his circle safely four tenths slower and still went through to the final. The second session is not the case to take such risks. We are especially concerned that he could break into the third without any problems. Sergio is also upset, but he will turn the page and do everything he can to improve tomorrow. We all support him, and the talk that we are going to replace him with someone is not true.”
