Charles Leclerc set the sixth fastest time in qualifying in the run-up to the sprint in Austria. The Ferrari driver said he could potentially do better, but the car was running worse than in Friday’s sessions.
Charles Leclerc: “I don’t think I had the best last session. I did a fast lap, then a slow lap and then attacked again, although it was probably better to do two slow laps.
One slow lap wasn’t enough – my tires were too hot, so they simply didn’t have enough grip on the second fast lap. Sorry, but what’s done is done.
This morning in such conditions I didn’t have the best pace and the car was running much worse than yesterday. This is not good, but let’s see what result I can get in the sprint.
I hope that by the sprint the track is completely dry or that it will rain again. When conditions are changeable, there is only one dry stretch, so overtaking is impossible. If it is completely dry and the car is fast, then I can certainly win back.”
