Thanks to Esteban Okon’s seventh-place finish, Team Alpine earned two points in Saturday’s Austrian Grand Prix sprint. His teammate Pierre Gasly lost positions at the start due to a slip and finished fifteenth outside of prize eight.
Esteban Ocon (7th): “Today we performed with Dilano in mind. What happened at the Spa this morning is a real tragedy and I offer my sincerest condolences to all who loved and knew him.
In terms of sprinting, I’ve had great battles with Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris and George Russell. The team has been in control in these conditions and we are happy to score some points on Saturday.
Now all our attention is on Sunday’s race, where there will be an opportunity to catch up. I’m sure we’ll have a good race.”
Pierre Gasley (15th): “First of all, my thoughts are with the family and friends of Dilano van ‘t Hoff, who passed away today in Spa. This is very sad news and hard to accept for anyone in the racing community. In the race we will race with Dilano in mind.
The sprint turned out to be difficult – at the start I slipped and lost several positions. I’m staying focused for tomorrow’s race, which I will start ninth. I get more chances to earn points.”
