F2: Novalak disqualified, three more fined

After a hectic Saturday sprint in Formula 2, the stewards had to take into account several incidents that occurred during the short race, so the fines handed out to three drivers in the evening, a few hours after the end of yesterday’s program at the Red Bull Ring, people were surprised.

But the disqualification of French racer Trident Clement Novalak came as a surprise. But during the FIA inspection, which was carried out after the finish, it turned out that the No. 21 car did not comply with the technical regulations. It turned out that the pressure in the rear tires was below the set limit, and this is a clear violation of Article 12.9 of the technical regulations, which inevitably leads to disqualification.

For example, Novalak was excluded from the sprint protocol and Isaac Hadjar, his compatriot who plays for the Hitech team, moved to third place. Accordingly, all other riders who finished behind Hajjar also moved up one spot, and the final bonus point for 8th place in the sprint went to Oliver Berman.

Kush Maini was formally given a penalty in the form of driving down the pit lane, but he was unable to sit it out again, so 20 seconds were added to his result for knocking Enzo Fittipaldi off the track, causing the Brazilian’s car to flip and him was out of the fight. On track, Maini finished 12th, but after a sprint review Indian rider Campos fell back to 16th.

Admittedly, Enzo was also penalized for the collision with Maini and will lose three positions at the start of today’s race.

Ralph Boschung, Maini’s partner, also received a 10-second penalty for forcing Virtuosi Racing driver Amaury Kordil to leave the track. Tellingly, this episode took place on the same section of track where the Maini violation was recorded, i.e. between Turns 3 and 4.

Admittedly, at first glance, Boschung’s revised result seems somewhat paradoxical: he finished 18th on the track, but finished 17th in the final protocol. In fact, nothing strange: this is just a consequence of Novalak’s disqualification.
