The stage in Austria was the fifth in a row in which AlphaTauri did not earn any points. The team’s best result was Nick de Vries’ fifteenth place. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda received a 10-second penalty for repeatedly violating track boundaries and finished eighteenth.
Nick deVries (15th): “I think I had a good race. In the evening we changed the car’s settings to increase the speed, but this resulted in a start from the pit lane. The safety car at the start of the race played into our hands, allowing us to close the gaps in the peloton
I think I did well and got the most out of the car, but it doesn’t have enough speed to fight for top ten places.
I accept my punishment, but I was just trying to find the limits. Fortunately I created enough of a lead over my closest opponent to keep my position. I still have a lot to improve and am not yet at the level I want to be, but together we constantly try to contribute.”
Yuki Tsunoda (18th): “I was aggressive at the start because I tried to gain back as many positions as possible. Everything could have gone well, but unfortunately I damaged the car in the first corner and went off the track in the fourth corner. I don’t know if the underside of the car got damaged, but after that I didn’t have the pace and the car was very difficult to control.
I couldn’t keep the car in the track and will definitely learn from that for the future. Overall the race turned out to be difficult.”
