Stewards decision on Aston Martin protest

The FIA has published the stewards’ decision on the race result protest filed by Aston Martin after the finish of the Austrian Grand Prix.

“Having received the protest from the Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant F1 Team, after hearing from team representative Andy Stevenson, FIA representative Nicolas Tombasis and Ferrari representative Diego Ioverno, the stewards have made the following decision:

Objections have been made to the correctness of the provisional classification. First of all, the stewards considered whether such a protest could be considered, after which they decided that it had been submitted on time and met the requirements of Chapter 13 of the FIA International Sporting Code. The protest was accepted.

An analysis of the list of invalid lap results provided to the stewards by the race director showed that in a number of cases, track limit violations were not reported to the stewards for consideration of a possible fine.

It turned out that some of these violations were not taken into account when the provisional classification was published, although there were grounds for fines. These violations will be reflected in the final standings. Accordingly, the protest is accepted and the protest fee is refunded to the party that filed it.

Competitors are reminded that, in accordance with Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 4 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinar Rules, they have the right to appeal.

The decisions of the stewards are made independently of the FIA and are based solely on the relevant rules, guidelines and evidence presented.”
