At Spielberg, the Alpine riders finished on the same starting positions. The team took four points, Okon two in the sprint and Gasly two in the race.
Otmar Safnauer, team leader: “Four points don’t suit us. This result clearly shows what we are missing in the fight against the closest rivals, who are now a few tenths ahead of us.
Next week at Silverstone where we will update the car and hopefully make progress in the next races.
Pierre Gasley (9th): “Today we did our best. It’s nice to earn points, but ninth place is not a position that suits us. Today we again saw that we lack speed compared to our closest rivals.
I actively attacked and in the end I got a five-second penalty for crossing the boundaries of the track, as many do these days. I’m looking forward to the round at Silverstone and hope we have a better weekend at the team’s home track.”
Esteban Ocon (12th): “Not an easy race. It’s always a shame to miss a chance to score points. You need to carefully analyze the course of the race and understand how to make the car more competitive from a distance.
I collided with Yuki Tsunoda on the first lap – my car had damage and then got a ticket – it wasn’t my day! I leave Austria knowing I had a good Saturday with points, but I have to work hard to improve on Sunday. Silverstone ahead!
