In Spielberg, Aston Martin scored points with two cars, but they are not happy with the result…
Fernando Alonso (6th): “It was our maximum for today. We were close to Lando Norris and the Mercedes cars in terms of speed, we tried to play at the expense of strategy by starting on Hard, but the virtual safety car mode negated the potential advantage of a long first stint.
Last year this circuit was not with our car either, so we have something to think about. We earned a few points in the sprint, closing the gap to second in the Constructors’ Championship.
The season is long, next week the team is waiting for a home race at the incredible Silverstone circuit. We will do everything possible.”
Lance walk (10th): “The day turned out to be difficult, but the most important thing is that we earned important points for the team.
We timed the Virtual Safety Car (VSC) pit stop a bit wrong, lost a few spots in the pit lane, and this decision dictated the strategy for the rest of the race. Now it is clear that we should have pitted on the first lap of the VSC, and not on the second. We must draw conclusions for the future.
I had some interesting battles, especially I enjoyed overtaking Yuki Tsunoda in the third corner. Now our attention turns to Silverstone. It’s one of the best tracks on the calendar, I’m looking forward to being there again in a few days.”
