At a press conference on Friday, AlphaTauri boss Franz Tost said that if a replacement for Nick de Vries is needed, Daniel Ricciardo could return to the team.
Franz Tost: “The approach is quite simple – everything is determined by the results. Our team’s task is to train young racers, but now there are no ready-made candidates among the youth.
They will appear, Iwasa and Hajjar are doing great in the youth series, but it is still too early for their debut in Formula 1. I’m sure they’ll be on our team one day, but now we may need a different solution. This issue has not yet been discussed.
All Formula 1 drivers compete under pressure. Let’s see how de Vries will perform here and at Silverstone – on tracks he knows well.
We must not forget that it is not easy for beginners. They did not compete on most tracks in the first half of the season. They have never raced in Melbourne, Saudi Arabia or Miami before. But for the stages on the circuits known to them – in Austria, Silverstone, Spa, Budapest, Monza. This will help them feel confident.
Will de Vries make it to the end of this season? It only depends on him. If he performs well, why should we change him?
