Pirelli announce lineups for Hungary and Belgium

Pirelli has announced the tire compounds for the Hungarian and Belgian Grands Prix.

On the Hungaroring track in the suburbs of Budapest, the teams have the softest train trio at their disposal: C3, C4 and C5. Spashinniki will make trains one step more difficult – C2, C3 and C4.

In addition, Pirelli confirmed that in Hungary, qualifying will be held in a new format – in the first session only the Hard lineup can be used, in the second – only Medium and in the third – only Soft. This reduces the number of kits that tire manufacturers bring to the podium for each rider to eleven instead of the usual thirteen, a step towards greater environmental friendliness and cost savings.

In total, each rider gets seven slick compositions on Saturday and Sunday. At least one hard setup and one medium setup must be saved per race. As for the remaining four teams, one set will have to be handed in after the first and second training session and two sets after the third free practice session.

The number of sets of intermediate and rain tires on the stage in Hungary remains unchanged: four and three respectively.

Initially, the new qualifying format was planned to be tested at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, but due to the cancellation of the stage, the experiment was moved to Hungary. In addition, Pirelli confirmed that qualifying for September’s Italian Grand Prix at Monza will be held in the same experimental format.
