Red Bull motorsport adviser Helmut Marko commented on Max Verstappen’s win at the Austrian Grand Prix and assessed the team’s chances of winning all the remaining races of the season.
Q: Were you nervous when Max Verstappen pitted for soft tires in the closing laps to show the best lap?
Helmut Marko: You can say it. That can always be difficult during the pit stop, but Max cannot be convinced. He needed a better lap so he could sleep well later.
Question: Do you allow Max to do this behavior just because he is the best?
Helmut Marko: We allow it because we want our riders to be happy.
Q: While everyone was crossing the boundaries of the track, Max said nothing on this subject…
Helmut Marko: In qualifying he had problems with the boundary of the track, but before the race he drew the right conclusions. Max behaved very confidently and communicated with us on the radio as if he was not participating in the race, but having lunch in a cafe.
Q: How will the Red Bull Ring solve the problem of respecting the limits of the track?
Helmut Marko: During the race, 1200 violations of the boundaries of the track were reportedly counted. It’s just unthinkable! I support change and a solution will be found by the 2024 race.
Q: Do you know that at Silverstone Red Bull Racing can repeat McLaren’s record with 11 wins in a row?
Helmut Marko: We expect to repeat the performance of Williams and overtake them in the number of wins – 114. This year we can only overtake them if we win all the remaining races of the season.
