The contract for the British Grand Prix expires next year. Formula 1 head Stefano Domenicali confirmed after a meeting with the country’s government that a new agreement would be signed with Silverstone.
Stefano Domenicali: “The Silverstone stage is very important for Formula 1 as seven of the ten teams are based in the UK. The British racing tradition is phenomenal and will always hold a special place on the calendar. We have a very strong relationship and we will be announcing an extension shortly as Formula 1 needs to have a presence in the UK.
Silverstone is lucky because this is the one track we shouldn’t lose because of British teams and traditions. Giving up the Silverstone podium is not an option.”
Commenting on the outlook for the London Grand Prix, Domenicali said: “London is an incredible city, but incredible cities face incredible challenges.
From a background perspective it would be great to have a race in London, but realistically it is a very complex project and at the moment the complexity of its implementation is too great for Formula 1.
