Tsunoda: We can take a step forward with new products

AlphaTauri drivers Nick de Vries and Yuki Tsunoda spoke about the track at Silverstone and the new products the team will be taking to the British Grand Prix.

Nick deVries: “I know the track at Silverstone very well. I have ridden it a lot in different series and even in the World Endurance Championship. The track is one of the fastest on the calendar with many fast corners.

At high speeds, wind becomes an important factor because the track is flat and open and the weather is often unpredictable. It is a historic location at the heart of Formula 1 and motor racing, as the core of our industry is around Silverstone.

Is the track suitable for our car or not? This question is asked by all teams, but if you look at the density of results in the middle group, it is impossible to predict how high we will be next weekend. The gaps are minimal, so it’s critical not to make mistakes. If we have a clean weekend, we will quickly approach the top ten. It is also important to make the right decisions during the weekend to maximize the potential of the car we have at our disposal.”

Yuki Tsunoda: “I think almost all drivers love Silverstone, and so do I. Most of the corners are fast, but I’m optimistic and I think we can take a step forward as the team will bring a lot of aerodynamic innovations to this stage.

The race weekend will be held in the usual format, giving us more time to test the updates. That’s good, because the next race will show what results we can expect in the next part of the season.

Ideal car settings for Silverstone are in a way similar to the settings for the Austrian circuit – minimal drag on the straights, but plenty of downforce.

The British Grand Prix has a rich history and our aerodynamics department is located close to the circuit in Bicester. I love flying this interesting classic course. I have fond memories of her victory in the sprint in Formula 2 a few years ago, as well as the podium in the feature race.

I must say that Silverstone has a unique atmosphere and the UK has a special place in motorsport and is very important for Formula 1.”
