In Formula 1, the FIA World Council-approved calendar for the 2024 season was presented. The calendar features 24 stages, with the season starting March 2 in Bahrain and ending December 8 in Abu Dhabi.
The first two races of the season will be held in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia on Saturday. This to avoid overlap with Ramadan. There’s a race in Las Vegas on Saturday.
The Chinese Grand Prix will take place next season for the first time since 2019. To reduce the number of flights around the world, more stages have been grouped on a regional basis in the calendar. The Japanese Grand Prix has thus been postponed to April and will take place between the races in Melbourne and Shanghai. The Azerbaijan Grand Prix took place at the end of September.
The traditional August break has been retained in the calendar of the following season. There is a break of almost a month between the races in Singapore and Austin in the autumn. However, this was supposed to increase the number of double and triple kicks.
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1: “I am delighted to present the calendar for the 2024 season, which will offer 24 stages to our fans around the world. The interest in Formula 1 is constantly growing, which means that we are getting more and more requests for podiums. I think this calendar strikes the right balance between traditional races and exciting new venues.
I would like to thank all initiators and partners for their support and efforts in compiling the calendar. Our commitment to a more sustainable calendar will continue in the coming years as we further optimize our carbon neutrality agenda for 2030.
There are many more races to go in 2023, including the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix, but our fans are already looking forward to an even more exciting next season.”
Mohammed Ben SulayemFIA President: “The published version of the 2024 Formula 1 calendar, approved by the FIA World Motorsport Council, will enable us to take an important step towards our goal.
We want to make Formula 1 more environmentally friendly and more comfortable for employees moving from podium to podium.
Stefano Domenicali and his team have done an excellent job of bringing circuits in new areas to the Formula 1 calendar while preserving the sport’s historical heritage.
Each race can only take place with the close collaboration of the FIA, FOM, promoters and hosts, bringing together thousands of volunteer marshals and volunteers. And as we move into the future, we must ensure that our priorities grow and evolve in line with the needs of society and what is best for our sport, fans and the environment.”
