Like all British riders, Lando Norris really likes the home stage of the championship, mainly because of the special atmosphere. If, according to the McLaren driver, there is a circuit in the season where he would most like to climb the podium, it is Silverstone.
Lando Norris: “I’m looking forward to the British Grand Prix – it’s finally my turn at home. I’m in a good mood because the weekend in Austria was very successful and we hope we can do just as well in Silverstone.
Actually, piloting is always a pleasure, so I also mean the atmosphere of the weekend in general, meetings
with British fans and all.
I will be happy if I manage to finish in the top five, like in Austria, although it is unlikely that I will be able to achieve more. But we definitely took a step forward, we managed to overtake and stay ahead of many rivals, and the race at the Red Bull Ring has been the most successful for us so far this season.
We have to try and maintain momentum, we have just such a goal, although moving up to higher positions may not be entirely realistic. There will be a few more new products on the car this weekend – I hope they will add some more, and our job is to strengthen our position in the championship.
The rivalry on the track is quite sharp and if we manage to fight on an equal footing with the Aston Martin and Mercedes racers I will be pleased. This season we’ve been performing inconsistently, better on some tracks, worse on others, and while we’ve managed to increase the pace of the McLaren MCL60, it hasn’t gotten any easier to manage. I think this is the next goal we will try to achieve.
Of course we will try to perform better than in Austria this weekend, but just to stay at the same level is a very difficult task. If there’s one circuit in the season where I’d like to be on the podium, it’s Silverstone.
