For Aston Martin F1, the race at Silverstone is ‘home’ in all respects, as the team’s base is there and from there to the circuit is only a 15-minute walk or a little more. Lance Stroll, speaking about the expectations related to the upcoming weekend, stressed that thanks to a number of technical innovations, the AMR23 should overcome the shortcomings that prevented the team in Austria.
Lance Stroll: “Our base is literally across the road from the track, so the upcoming race really is home, and for all the Aston Martin staff it’s great. It’s not often they get the chance to go to the races and see our car on the track, but this weekend they have such an opportunity.
They will see the car and feel the atmosphere on the track, which is also great. In addition, this track is great to drive, and I’m already looking forward to this fun.
In Austria we weren’t in the best shape, but we have a few ideas of what it could be. At Silverstone a number of new products will appear on the car and we will try to eliminate some of the weaknesses that held us back at the previous stage. Hopefully we are more competitive now.
At the Red Bull Ring we lacked top speed on the straights, and in corners the balance of the car was not perfect, and in such corners the AMR23 underperformed the cars of some of the other teams. Overall, we hope we can perform with more confidence on the British circuit.”
