Magnussen: I would like to win Sunday’s race

In Montreal, the Haas drivers won the third row at full throttle – Kevin Magnussen set fifth and Mick Schumacher qualified sixth, which was his best result of his career. Haas praised Saturday’s results and hopes to maintain their high positions in the race.

Kevin Magnussen (5th): “I really liked it! This is exactly the qualification we were hoping for. Even in Imola we were convinced that such conditions are suitable for our car. With each lap the track conditions improved so it was important to improve constantly. I loved to attack constantly in such conditions.

I am very happy for the team. Mick did a great job and won sixth place at the start. A fifth and sixth place is a good result. And while no points will be awarded on Saturday, we have a reason to smile.

I would like to win Sunday’s race. However, our goal is to earn points, and from fifth position it is much easier to achieve this goal. It will be great if you manage to keep the starting position. We qualified above our usual places, which is a nice bonus.”

Mick Schumacher (6th): “The car drove well, especially on a drying track. The whole lap the car had enough grip and I was able to attack as I wanted. Unfortunately on the last set of tires I had to slow down behind Carlos Sainz, which made the tires too cold and I couldn’t get through the first corner well – the last attempt was far from ideal.

In any case, I am very happy with the result, which I worked very hard for. I’m sure I’ll keep adding, based on what’s been accomplished. I’ve always liked racing on wet tracks because in such conditions you have to push the boundaries of what’s acceptable, and the outcome largely depends on the rider.

There is no doubt that it will be difficult to keep sixth in the race, but I will try anyway.”
