Ahead of the British Grand Prix, Kevin Magnussen confirmed that the team has not yet found a solution to the problem associated with severe rubber degradation on a long series of circles. However, the Haas driver hopes that the stage at Silverstone will go better, as the high-speed track suits the car’s characteristics.
Kevin Magnussen: “After several previous races it is impossible to be sure that we can score points this weekend.
Our car is usually very fast on Saturday in one lap with an empty tank and new tyres, but on Sunday in the races we have a lot more problems than the rest. Therefore, the team is now working to improve competitiveness in the race. This requires the tires to remain efficient for more than one lap.
First of all, we try to understand the reasons for this behavior of tires – they do not granulate, but deteriorate and lose efficiency faster than other machines. As a result, we are highly qualified, but in the races we are in the last positions.
Not the best situation – I’d rather it was the other way around and we could fight on Sunday. We are currently in a difficult situation.
The circuit at Silverstone is one of the fastest of the season and I hope it will showcase the strengths of our car, which is very good at fast corners. There is not much pressure on the brakes on this circuit and I wonder if this will affect our problems.”
