The AlphaTauri team has not earned any points for five stages in a row. At a press conference on the eve of the British Grand Prix, team driver Yuki Tsunoda spoke about the car’s weaknesses that prevent it from competing for top ten places.
Yuki Tsunoda: “The race in Austria was one of the worst of the season. We did a lot of analysis after the finish and now all my focus is on the upcoming race at Silverstone.
The team has prepared quite a few updates, so I’m looking forward to testing them. I hope they will be effective and I will try to take advantage of all opportunities as much as possible. The goal is to compete for points.
Our machine lacks efficiency in all areas. In Austria, the main problem was the strong resistance on the straights. The car has a very low speed on the straights and there is no downforce in the corners! We increase the downforce to somehow get through the corners, but this drops the speed even more on the straights. Simply put, we need more speed on the straights and more speed in the corners.
The new items we’ve brought to Silverstone should help us handle the car in a slightly different way and add downforce. I’m optimistic that the updates have been quite effective on the simulator, but we’ll see how they perform on track.”
