Valtteri Bottas first climbed to the podium at Silverstone in 2014 driving for Williams, and then managed four more top three finishes at the circuit, but already at the wheel of Mercedes. It is unlikely that Alfa Romeo’s car will allow you to fight for such high positions, but the Finnish driver hopes that the new items the team has prepared for this weekend will still allow him to add.
Valtteri Bottas: “It’s hard to keep in mind all the details of previous successes at this circuit, but if you recall the fondest memories, I would probably choose the 2014 race. That season as a whole was pretty good, although of course it’s always great when you get on the podium.
This weekend our car is getting some new items that we definitely need, and the entire Hinwil base staff has been working at maximum effort to get two sets of these components ready for the British round of the championship.
Last weekend in Austria we generally didn’t have the pace to fight for top ten places, so let’s hope the new items will add speed, especially as they are designed for fast tracks with fast corners. It will be interesting to see how the behavior of the C43 changes at Silverstone.
Half of the season is behind us, and if we talk about Alfa Romeo’s position in the Constructors’ Championship, where our team is in 8th place, the next stage will be extremely important. If we can take a step forward it will give confidence for the remaining races of the championship, but at least we are determined to continue the fight.
The rivalry is very sharp and even a small increase in speed can significantly affect the results. Of course, a lot always depends on the characteristics of a particular track, but we are not going to slow down.
If both of our cars finish in the top 10 this weekend, it can be considered a success.”
