The first full season in Formula 1 is not easy for Nick de Vries. The pressure in AlphaTauri is traditionally high, but the car leaves a lot to be desired and the driver, who has no time to adapt, makes mistakes. At Silverstone, the Dutchman said that he is used to pressure.
Nick de Vries: “Every day I wake up with the thought that I need to get stronger, perform better on the track. I always try to be the best, do my job well, nothing has changed for me.
Of course I am not completely satisfied with my performance. But that’s part of the learning process. Every weekend is different, one is better, the other worse. We need stability to get the most out of every weekend.
For example in Barcelona I felt I could compete with rivals, I showed the eighth fastest time in the first part of qualifying, but I had lost two sets of tyres, so in the second I was immediately one step behind. And I had a bad start. It is necessary that this puzzle is formed, then the results will appear.
In professional motorsport, the racer always fights to survive. It’s been that way all my career. Sometimes I told myself that I was not fighting with rivals, but for the continuation of my career. I wanted to race, not mow the lawn in the front yard. And now there is no more difficult stage than I have experienced before.
The task of each rider occupying positions from 11 to 20 is to earn points. But the results are very close, the whole back of the field sometimes fits in a second. I think this factor is underestimated. I don’t think the battle in Formula 1 has ever been this fierce.”
