Carlos Sainz qualified third in Montreal. Immediately after the session, the Ferrari driver admitted that a mistake in the final corner of the decisive attempt cost him a higher starting position.
Carlos Sainz: “Today I was satisfied with the behavior of the car, especially on wet tyres. When the track dried up, the rivals were able to take a step forward.
In the decisive attempt I showed the best time in the first sector, but lost a bit in the second to Max. I tried to go too fast through the last corner but lost about half a second because of this. I wanted to take pole position, but due to my own mistake I start third.
However, I have a good starting position. I think I can fight Max. Let’s see what we can do with Fernando because he’s been very fast all weekend. I’ll try to have a good race and see if I can win.”
