The start of the second training session had to be postponed – after the accident during Formula 2 qualifying, the barrier had to be repaired. The delay turned out to be small – five minutes later, when leaving the pit lane, the green light came on.
Leclerc was unable to leave – Ferrari mechanics solved problems with the electrics on his car, causing him to lose the entire session. Bad start to the weekend for the Italian team.
After having worked on Hard and Medium in the first training, the riders actively used Soft in the second training, but there was also insufficient grip on that. Everyone was dissatisfied with the performance of the tyres.
A stone flew into Stroll’s finger, he told the engineer he felt pain but stayed on the track.
If there’s one thing in the world that’s been consistent this year, it’s Max Verstappen’s lead – the Dutchman led protocol with a lap time of 1:28.078. Carlos Sainz lost only two hundredths to him and Charles Leclerc did not leave the pits.

The teams brought many new products to Silverstone, which they began testing on the final stage in Austria. The tire manufacturers brought in new tires that could handle higher loads, so the initial training program turned out to be intense.
At the start of the session the riders went to Hard and Medium and then switched to Soft. The team’s new tires have already been tested in Barcelona, but today everyone was complaining about the lack of grip – the hard compounds were too hard for Silverstone. “It’s like driving on ice,” Verstappen told the engineer.
The build-up on high-speed sections also returned – the teams tried to lower the suspension height as much as possible for greater aerodynamic efficiency, but on the straights they bottomed out.
In the 12th minute, Nick de Vries crashed into the gravel after flipping at turn seven, but was able to continue, apart from minor exits into the safety zones.
The best time was traditionally shown by Max Verstappen, who crossed the circle in 1:28.600 and was almost half a second ahead of everyone, including his partner.
