On Friday, Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur spoke about the progress made and the next steps to be taken to refine the car…
Frederic Wasser: “Every weekend is unique. As Toto Wolff said, we are in a tight group, fighting for places from second to tenth, and in every Grand Prix, in every session, these positions can change. You need to take it easy and keep working.
From the very beginning of the season we wanted to get more stability and handling out of the car – and during this time we’ve been adding to that in earnest. First in Barcelona – that stage turned out to be difficult, but things went much better in Montreal. Then we took another step in Austria. We are moving in this direction, we have taken two big steps and this is not the end. The work continues ahead of another 12 or 13 races.
We understand that the alignment of forces can change at any stage. The results are so compact that everything depends on the little things – on the configuration of the track, asphalt, weather conditions. One or two tenths can take you from the top of the pack to the bottom.
The refinement of the machine is limited by a budget that we cannot exceed. Now there is no way to take and build another car like a few years ago. You have to adapt the existing machine to the current situation, and under these circumstances we have taken a worthy step forward.
In addition, it must be taken into account that the regulations have become much more binding than before, and it is now difficult to make any real serious progress during the season. But we, like everyone else, are already working on next year’s car and adjusting the direction of further development.
