During the third practice session, a McLaren mechanic had to cross the white line at the exit of the pit lane to remove the cooling fan from Lando Norris, who had already left the MCL60 pits.
This led to McLaren being called to the stewards for breaching Articles 26.6 and 26.7 of the sporting regulations, which prohibit team members from entering the circuit without special permission.
The stewards pleaded guilty to the team, but, taking into account all the circumstances, limited themselves to a warning and a fine of 1,000 euros.
“Machine #4 left the pits with extra equipment on the back. As the car passed through the pit lane, the driver was told to pull over.
The driver stopped the car in the first safe spot, just behind the pit lane exit. The stewards noted that he couldn’t stop early because of the photographers standing behind the last boxes in the work area.
The stewards believe that releasing the car with extra equipment in the back was wrong. But the team’s quick action to stop the car in the pit lane mitigated a potentially dangerous situation, so the stewards are issuing only a warning,” the statement said.
