Second and third places in qualifying were taken by British McLaren driver Lando Norris and Australian Oscar Piastri respectively.
Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) finished seventh.
The British Grand Prix will take place on Sunday. Departure is at 5:00 p.m. Moscow time.
