At Silverstone, Alex Albon reached the qualifying final for the third time in a row and will start eighth in the home race for Williams. His teammate Logan Sargent qualified fourteenth, a repeat of his best finish of the season.
Alex Albon (8th): “A great weekend, but it’s funny that I’m disappointed with only eighth place. However, if you stay realistic, then this is a great result.
Qualifying went smoothly, but as the track dried, the cornering speed increased, which led to increased tire wear, including at the front. It is necessary to understand the reasons, because in the final I was prevented by a combination of these factors.
We’ve been in control from the very beginning of the weekend, I quickly found the rhythm and adapted to the changes in the car. I think the end result was in line with expectations, but if I had been told before the weekend that I would take such a position, I would not have believed it.
Logan Sargent (14th): “For me the goal this weekend was to get to the second part of qualifying – and I managed to do that, although the session was difficult. At the moment we cannot take advantage of the changeable weather conditions. We knew that the results would be tighter in qualifying than in training.
It’s a shame I didn’t have a new set of tires at the end of the second session – it probably cost me to get to the final. In the end, the car is in good condition and we are heading in the right direction.
I am happy with the steps I have already taken this weekend, although there is still a lot to do. That we are going in the right direction is positive and we can count on a successful race. It will be difficult to start from 14th surrounded by fast cars, but I will do my best.”
