Piastri’s father happy for Oscar

Oscar Piastri’s father Chris said in an interview with Speedcafe at Silverstone that he is incredibly happy with his son’s third place in Saturday’s qualifying…

Chris Piastri: “You could only dream of it. After a year without racing, after the difficulties of the start of the season, there is finally a feeling that the work with the car is moving in the right direction. I’m very happy for Oscar and Lando – it’s great!

I’m glad it worked out this time. The car was fine, the weather was good, Oscar put in a perfect lap when it mattered. So far he has not been able to catch up with Max, but one day it will happen.

I think everyone on the team was surprised when Lando and Oscar qualified in the top three. Everyone in the McLaren camper just went crazy. Usually I keep a low profile but after qualifying we were all hugging and jumping like crazy. It was a special moment.

The first third place Oscar in qualifying, the car is fine, the Grand Prix at home, the huge number of spectators is fantastic!

I spoke to Zach Brown, we both hope the race will be uneventful for us, that there will be no issues and both riders will salvage their positions and climb the podium. It would be incredible! Let’s cross our fingers. You never know what can happen, as Lando showed in Austria.

I hope the tires hold up and we’ll see how the UK weather behaves. It’s impossible to predict.”
