Alonso: There will be ups and downs as the season progresses

Seventh place at the end of the British Grand Prix was a repeat of Fernando Alonso’s worst result of the season. His Aston Martin team-mate finished eleventh, but moved up to fourteenth after a penalty for a collision with Pierre Gasly.

Fernando Alonso (7th): “We gave our best in the race and took seventh place in a difficult weekend for the team. I think we developed the right strategy and made the right decisions during the race. We have to analyze the whole weekend as a whole, but we are not worried about this result.

In 2023 we are performing better than expected and there are many more races to come. Just two stages ago we were fighting for the win so there will be many more ups and downs as the season progresses.

It was great to play at Silverstone and see so much support from Aston Martin. Let’s see if we can do better in Hungary.”

Lance walk (14th): “Today was not our day. As expected, the track characteristics did not suit our AMR23, causing pacing issues.

As for the incident with Pierre, he pushed me out of the track several times – the second time we collided. In the evening we go to see if my car has been damaged.

The team had a difficult weekend, but now all focus is on the next stage. The Hungarian circuit should fit the car – we will attack with all our might to get a better result.

Mike Crack, team boss: “In the home race at Silverstone, the team took six points – a good result at the end of the weekend when we didn’t have enough speed to fight ahead. Fernando ran the race without much effort and we chose the right moment to switch to Soft while on track with the safety car.

Today we minimized the losses and Fernando had to actively defend seventh place in the closing laps. Lance fought with all his might. He attacked to break into the top ten, but fell back due to a collision with Pierre Gasly.

Today’s result allowed us to strengthen third place in the Constructors’ Championship and extend the lead over Ferrari. We will continue to work hard to be more competitive in Hungary in two weeks.”
