Pirelli is pleased with the debut of the new tire design and its performance on difficult tracks…
Mario Isol, Director of Pirelli Motorsport: “First of all thanks to the great crowd at Silverstone. 480,000 spectators for the weekend is an impressive record, testifying to the incredible popularity of Formula 1.
In terms of tire performance, the weekend provided some interesting answers. The introduction of the new tire design went according to plan and the initial analysis of the data suggests that everything is in line with our expectations. We knew that all three compounds could be used in the race, which was confirmed on the track.
Cooler weather compared to Friday made the soft tires last longer. But the fact that all three compounds were acceptable for the race allowed the teams to choose the combination of compounds that best suited their car.
Relegation was lower than expected for all three compounds, despite the fact that this circuit is one of the most difficult for tyres. This means that teams have been able to extend their stints without significant loss of performance.”
