Lando Norris had a great British Grand Prix and even led after the start, although of course he could not resist Max Verstappen for a long time, but still finished second, after the restart he very skillfully deflected all the attacks of Lewis Hamilton. His teammate, Oscar Piastri, could also have climbed to the podium, but the safety car came out at an unfortunate moment for him.
Lando Norris (2nd): “It was a crazy race! I just want to say thank you to all of our team, because none of this would have been possible without the hard work of everyone who works at McLaren. In general everything is great!
In the beginning of the race I tried to fend off Max’s attacks as long as possible, then I rode alone for a long time, but everything worked out well.
Admittedly, I don’t know why I got a hard tire – they still act like beginners in the team! (laughs) The battle with Lewis was incredibly interesting, although I may have made too many mistakes. But I did everything in my power.
When I got hard tires I thought the team just wanted to give me another test! (laughs) I wanted to switch to soft tyres, it seemed more logical to me, especially since there was a safety car on the track.
But now it doesn’t matter anymore, because I finished second! So it’s all good. This is my best result in the British Grand Prix and when I returned to the pit lane after the finish I tried to wave all the way to the fans in the stands to thank them for their support.
Today, however, Oscar and I would have finished in 2nd and 3rd place – he had a great race and would have climbed to the podium had it not been for the safety car.
Oscar Pistri (4e): “The most pleasant thing is that we achieved such a result very well due to our own speed. In my opinion it’s one thing if you’re just lucky, but today our team was really second fastest and that was a very pleasant surprise.
I was unlucky, the safety car came out at a bad time for me and Lewis was able to make a pit stop without losing any time. But if 4th place upsets me then this isn’t bad in its own way considering the positions we were in at the start of the season.
Absolutely, the technical innovations we installed on my car this weekend are a huge credit to the team, everything worked extremely efficiently. It’s great to be back in the standings, so we’ll have good times in the future.
We still have some of our weaknesses on some tracks. But the MCL60 car has some merits and I think the track at Silverstone suited our car well, although we thought the race in Austria could be an exception. But it turned out that we performed even better here.
It’s great that we showed good pace in two races in a row, so now we will continue to fight and try to climb to even higher positions. This is a very happy moment for McLaren. Even without talking about trophies, we earned a lot of points today and for the team it’s a fantastic result.
I don’t want to stay on the fifth line of the Constructors’ Championship, we will try to move up and argue with the top teams. It will be work, but if we perform like we did this weekend, anything is possible!”
