Alonso: The team needs to relax and not worry

Fernando Alonso was philosophical about his seventh-place finish at Silverstone, a repeat of his worst result of the season. The Aston Martin driver said he was aware of the problems on the British circuit in advance, so he tried to keep losses to a minimum during the last race weekend.

Fernando Alonso «All weekend we were not fast enough in all sessions, so the picture in the race was no different. We had problems with the pace, but thanks to the strategy we managed to squeeze the maximum out of it. I am grateful to the team for making the right decisions that allowed me to finish seventh. This is probably an even higher result than we should have received.

Silverstone won’t fit in our car. In addition, it is necessary to analyze the performance of the tires – this is the first time we have used such a design in the race. The whole weekend needs to be analyzed in detail, but I think we got through the difficulties well. I hope the team will be competitive again in Hungary.

I’m not worried about the pace of development of our car. This season is already better than expected, and allows us to fight for results that we didn’t even dream of at the beginning of the year. It is important to focus on the long term.

We can’t worry every weekend whether we finish seventh, fourth or on the podium. We need to be as pragmatic as possible and relaxed about our speed.”
