McLaren team boss Andrea Stella happy with British Grand Prix results…
Andrea Stella: “For a debutant, the Oscars simply show excellent results. You think he’s a beginner, but he was soon training and became a point of reference for Lando. It’s safe to say we have a fantastic pair of pilots!
Unfortunately he had to change tires before the safety car took off, but his car’s tires started to lose efficiency and he started to lose speed. We didn’t risk losing position on the track, so we decided to make a pit stop. While you wait for the safety car to come out, you can’t compromise your strategy because it might not happen.
Frankly, we were surprised ourselves when we managed to keep Ferrari and Mercedes behind us in the first stint. We were sure they would be faster, but our progress turned out to be even greater than we had hoped. We improved a lot, especially in fast corners.
It’s hard to say how this will affect the balance of power going forward – all circuits are different, but we were fast in Austria and Silverstone so it should stay that way.”
