We quoted Daniel Ricciardo saying he is ready to drive the AlphaTauri if it opens up the possibility for him to return to Red Bull Racing in the future. However, team leader Christian Horner said that making Riccardo’s place available was not part of the foreseeable plans.
Christian Horner: “We are absolutely not planning this. We thought it would be the right choice to invite him to the team this season so that Daniel stays in Formula 1. It would be a great loss to the sport if Ricciardo just disappeared.”
Daniel Ricciardo returns to the wheel of Red Bull Racing on Tuesday for Pirelli testing. Horner said he expects the Australian driver: “These are important tests for Pirelli, and we are interested in watching Daniel, assessing his pace, as well as his mental and physical condition. It is also interesting to hear his comments about the car.
I think it’s a good opportunity for Daniel to get back behind the wheel and get a feel for the car that has just won the British Grand Prix.”
