There were rumors in the spring that veteran engineer Nick Chester, who previously worked at Lotus, Renault and Mercedes, would become technical director of one of the new Formula 1 teams – then it was supposed to be Andretti Cadillac, but now there is other information popped up.
The Hungarian Formula.Hu writes based on various sources that Chester will become Williams’ technical director. The team has long been looking for a replacement for François-Xavier Demaison, who left Williams along with former team boss Jost Capito. Temporarily, these duties were carried out by David Warner, but team leader James Vowles made it clear that while signing a contract with a new technical director is a priority, he will not rush a choice.
At the end of June, Vowles announced that a replacement for Demaison had been found, and soon Williams would make a statement to that effect and introduce their new technical director. According to rumors, it will be Nick Chester.
Rumor has it that Pat Fry, who now holds the position of Alpine’s technical director, will also move to Williams.
