Lewis Hamilton loves the track at Silverstone, but today he only showed the 15th result in practice, highlighting that the Mercedes car is still not easy to drive.
Lewis Hamilton «At Silverstone, as always, windy, but in my opinion this is one of the distinguishing features of the track. The wind can blow in the same direction, it can be sideways, and here this is a whole phenomenon! Personally, I have nothing against it, although the behavior of the machine is less stable. But everyone is in an equal position, all riders have to overcome the same difficulties.
Our car is hard to drive anyway. No matter how we set it up, flying doesn’t get any easier. In one fast lap I didn’t feel much difference in speed when I switched from rubber of the same compound to soft tyres, which means there is something wrong with the car. We’re missing something.
But on a long series of circles, everything turned out not too bad, and this can at least be seen as a positive moment. But frankly, in this case it cannot be said that the machine worked perfectly. But towards the end, her behavior became more stable, although I don’t know why. Maybe with a balance, or maybe I’ve already gotten used to such a balance.
But this track really tests the riders’ skill and ability to find the necessary compromises. My partner and I just talked about it: George Russell thinks one thing, I have another opinion when it comes to settings, but we’ll work on this tonight and hopefully come up with something tomorrow.
