Vettel could have been banned from wearing his special helmet

When Sebastian Vettel appeared in the paddock of the Canadian Grand Prix in a T-shirt that clearly stated that this country was committing environmental crimes, it must be assumed that he was counting on a certain reaction.

And she wasn’t long in coming: We talked about the fact that Sonia Savage, Secretary of Energy for the Canadian province of Alberta, accused the Aston Martin racer of hypocrisy. Also for the Montreal weekend, the four-time world champion prepared a helmet designed in the same style as the T-shirt, but went to the start of the Grand Prix in his usual white helmet with a stripe in the colors of the German flag. .

Speculation appeared in the German press that the team could ban Vettel from wearing helmets, provoking such a sharp reaction in local political circles.

When Sky Deutschland asked the rider why he changed his mind about wearing a protest design helmet on Sunday, Sebastian replied: “I don’t want to say anything but I don’t have one helmet, I have more. Any more questions?

Mike Krak, head of the Aston Martin team, however, denies that Vettel is offending anything.

“Sebastian wanted to use this helmet and t-shirt to draw attention to this topic. At some point, he decided the task was done, – quotes the Krak edition of Auto Motor und Sport. Of course, he won’t wear the same T-shirt every day.

We have seen before that such campaigns were mainly held on Fridays and Saturdays. But of course he is a free man and makes his own decisions.”

Still, there is reason to believe that the team did not approve of Vettel’s action in Montreal. If previously Aston Martin’s press service always reported on certain initiatives of his racer on social networks, this time there were no posts at all devoted to his action. And of the 352 photos the team posted this weekend, none show his special helmet.

At the same time, a lot of attention has been paid to Lance Stroll’s new helmet.

In addition, there are rumors in the paddock that Vettel’s move has not been approved not only by Aston Martin management, but also by higher authorities. It is quite clear that if a driver, even if he is a four-time world champion, irritates the politicians of those countries who pay a lot of money for the right to organize races, it will hardly be welcomed in Formula 1.
