Kvyat does not rule out driving in Formula E

The NIO 333 team, which takes part in the electric car racing world championship, is considering several candidates who can get behind the wheel of their cars next year – in addition to Dan Tiktum and Sergio Sette-Camara, the current drivers, it is also Daniil Kvyat.

It is believed that contracts with the British and the Brazilian, which expire in 2023, offer the possibility of an extension, but according to Nicolas Todt, the manager of the Russian racer, negotiations with the owners of the NIO 333 are continuing.

Today Daniil takes part in special tests for beginners, which take place as part of the Italian race weekend at the city circuit in Rome. For him, this is not the first experience of driving series electric vehicles – in April, Kvyat already worked with the Chinese team on tests in Berlin. On a street circuit in the Italian capital, he drives Sette Camara’s car during a 30-minute training session.

This year Daniil will be racing in endurance racing with the Prema team in the LMP2 category, but next season he will have to move up to the higher Hypercar class as he has already signed a contract with the factory Lamborghini team.

But if the NIO 333 is chosen in its favour, it will be able to combine performances in the races of two different series. According to The Race, another scenario is also possible, in which the Indian team Mahindra may show interest in Kvyat, and then he will become Lucas di Grassi’s new partner in 2024.

“I don’t have a clearly defined program regarding Formula E, but the chances are quite high that I will drive in this class,” Daniil told The Race. – Let’s see what opportunities will arise, after which we will make a joint decision. I think in the course of practice it will be necessary to get used to the circuit, to reach the required speed level to some extent and try to collect some useful information for the team before the start of the race weekend.

We had a good session on the simulator and I feel ready to work on this new track for me.”

After 12 races this season, NIO 333 Racing is in penultimate, 10th place in the team standings.
