Latifi: My car can’t drive like Alex’s car

In 2022 Nicholas Latifi is regularly inferior to his partner Alex Albon – the last Canadian Grand Prix was no exception. After a race in which he finished fifteen seconds behind Albon, Latifi suggested that he and his partner did not have identical cars.

Nicholas Latifi: “There was nothing in the race that would give me pleasure. From the very beginning of the weekend, I lacked speed. With an empty tank, with a full one, with new tires or worn – in every situation I lost a lot. The team should use the two-week break between races to understand the reasons behind the delay. Let’s see if we can come up with something.

It seems to me that the problem is fundamental and does not depend on the situation or the condition of the circuit. Even when others don’t attack at full force, I don’t feel like I have a competitive pace. Let’s try to understand the reasons for Silverstone.

I believe the problem is not related to the way of driving. Of course at the start of the season part of the gap could be explained by a lack of confidence in the car, but I still don’t have a pace.

There are situations where I study a partner’s telemetry and understand that my car can’t drive like his – not the most pleasant feeling. This situation is somewhat puzzling. But again, we have a two-week break to analyze everything.”
