Today Daniel Riccardo came to the AlphaTauri base in Faenza for the first time in many years – once, in 2012-2013, he played for this team, which was then called Toro Rosso.
But all these years it was and is led by Franz Tost – it was he who met Daniel at the door of the base – literally with open arms. By the way, on these glass doors there was a bright sticker with a jar of honey, because everyone knows Riccardo’s nickname – “Honey Badger”.
First of all, Daniel was given a token service pass – a rather large sign with his picture on it, which read: “Welcome back, honey badger!”
The entire base personnel gathered in the foyer near the AphaTauri car and gave the Australian a standing ovation, who in turn gleefully uttered a few words of welcome in Italian. By the way, on the walls there were also images of jars of honey and the same inscription as on the “pas”.
Fans who commented on a short video report about this visit, published by the team on social networks, were divided into two camps: some are genuinely happy about the imminent return of Riccardo behind the wheel, others are no less genuinely concerned about Nick de Vries, who was not even thanked, but simply informed that his services are no longer needed.
Perhaps the most balanced position was taken by the one who wrote the following sentence: “You should not express your negative attitude towards Daniel to emphasize respect for Nick – and vice versa.”
