Sergio Perez: I hope to get on the podium in Hungary

Sergio Perez received a very warm welcome in Madrid yesterday, taking part in the Red Bull race show program and entertaining a crowd of thousands of fans on a makeshift track, smoking rubber and spinning donuts.

We have already quoted a short excerpt from his comments from yesterday, but it makes sense to quote a few more of his sentences from an interview with the Spanish press. For example, Sergio admitted that he still misses the mighty roar of the old naturally aspirated V8s because the RB7 that Red Bull brings to their shows has just such an engine.

“Certainly, this sound is not enough. It would be more boring to put on such a race show with modern Formula 1 cars because they are quieter,” said Perez. – Here, in Madrid, it’s very cool, I enjoy being here so much. isn’t it Mexico, I feel at home.”

When asked about the project of organizing another Grand Prix in Spain’s capital, the Red Bull Racing driver said in his own way: “I like it. And there is no doubt that my coach Javier Martos will then become the happiest man in the world! He loves Madrid very much!”

Pérez is second in the individual standings, but Fernando Alonso is third and another representative of Spain, Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz, rounds out the top five.

“Fernando brought a big surprise to everyone this year, together with him the Aston Martin team has taken a big step forward,” said Sergio, speaking of joining forces in the championship. – But in the last race, the McLaren team also surprised. After the transition to the new technical regulations, the battle in Formula 1 as a whole has become a lot sharper.

Carlos Sainz is also a great driver, just like Fernando. There is no point in comparing them, but Spain should simply rejoice in their success, because such a moment in the history of Spanish motorsport cannot be repeated.

And when asked nevertheless which of the two Spaniards would be ahead at the end of the season, Sergio replied with a laugh: “I hope the Mexican! In general, in Formula 1, only your position in the championship after the results of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix matters.

But it’s not by magic that I get 2nd place in the individual standings – I’ve won races. I’ve had bad weekends too, but the fight continues and there’s more to come. Absolutely, my goal is to stay in second place in the championship. But now all I’m thinking about is the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix.

Now priority tasks – to show good results in the two remaining races before the summer break. I hope to be on the podium in Budapest.”
